Overview

Vitis Model Composer is a model-based design tool that enables rapid design exploration inside the MathWorks MATLAB®/Simulink® environment and accelerates the path to production on AMD adaptive SoCs and FPGAs by automatically generating synthesizable HDL, HLS and AI-Engine code from Simulink models. It integrates pre-validated AMD algorithm blocks, supports Hardware/Emulation flows and provides resource analysis so developers can iterate and tune designs without leaving the Simulink workflow.

Features and Capabilities

• Model-based design & simulation: Seamless Simulink integration permits algorithm development, test and verification in Simulink before generating hardware-targeted code.
• Automatic code generation: Generates synthesizable HDL/HLS and AI Engine kernels from Simulink subsystems, reducing manual RTL/HLS coding effort.
• Pre-optimized AMD libraries: Includes AMD/Xilinx-provided bit- and cycle-accurate models and algorithm blocks to map common DSP and AI building blocks efficiently.
• Model Composer Hub block: Central control block that manages compilation, simulation, target selection, and flow orchestration for hardware or emulation builds.
• Hardware image & emulation flows: Supports creation of bare-metal or Linux images and hardware emulation (PL simulation + QEMU host emulation) to validate designs without immediate board hardware.
• Resource analysis & reporting: Correlates Simulink model elements with post-synthesis/implementation resource estimates (LUTs, BRAM, DSPs), enabling in-model resource optimization.
• AI Engine support: Import and simulate AI Engine kernels/graphs from Vitis for AI acceleration on Versal AI Engine partitions.
• Workflow automation & compile integration: Automates compilation into low-level representations and supports the Model Composer Hub for compiling and simulating designs end-to-end.
• Compatibility & licensing: Offered as an add-on license to Vivado Design Suite (Standard/Enterprise) and the Vitis development environment; available as floating or node-locked licenses.
