Overview
The Ultimate NVMe is EditShare’s next-generation, media-focused NVMe storage node designed to deliver extreme throughput, very high stream counts, and large capacity in a compact 2U form factor. Built on the EFS media-aware file system, the Ultimate NVMe targets finishing, VFX, film restoration and education environments that require ultra-low latency and simultaneous multi-user access for high-resolution, file-per-frame workflows. It emphasizes performance, efficiency, and sustainability — offering high sustained bandwidth, scalable capacity starting at 96TB up to nearly three-quarters of a petabyte per node, and reduced power/BTU for cost-efficient operation.
Features and Capabilities
- Performance: Delivers substantially higher NVMe throughput versus prior architectures, enabling very high stream counts and real-time editing of heavy codecs and file-per-frame DPX workflows.
- Capacity & Scalability: Starts at smaller capacities and scales to very large per-node capacities (approaching 0.75PB in a single 2U node) to suit finishing, VFX and enterprise needs.
- Media-aware File System: Uses EditShare’s EFS to optimize metadata, multi-editor concurrency and file-per-frame performance for media workflows.
- Concurrent Multi-user Access: Designed to support many simultaneous editors/graders (examples include supporting hundreds of concurrent student users or multiple finishing stations without performance drop).
- Sustainability & Efficiency: Lower heat output and improved power efficiency compared with legacy architectures, reducing operational costs and data-center cooling load.
- Use Cases: Real-time 8K/4K finishing, film restoration with live scanning pipelines, large educational deployments, and high-end VFX/DI finishing.
- Integrations & Ecosystem: Integrates with EditShare ecosystem components (asset management, archive, cloud sync, and native clients) to support hybrid workflows, archive/restore and long-term project management.
- Reliability & Deployment: Built for production environments with options for clustering and integration into multi-node EFS namespaces for high availability and large scale.
- Workflow Acceleration: Reduces bottlenecks in ingest, edit, grading and render stages—improving turnaround for dailies, finishing and restoration tasks.
- Film Restoration & Scanning: Designed to pair with high-resolution film scanners for on-the-fly processing and real-time workflows during capture and restoration.
