HIN network – for secure communication in the healthcare sector

Health Info Net AG (HIN), which was founded in 1996 on the initiative of FMH and Ärztekasse, aims to secure communication in the healthcare system and effectively protect patient data. To do so, HIN operates a joint IT network for the entire Swiss healthcare system. Almost all hospitals, physicians and specialist medical centers are connected to it.

HIN offers its users a range of services for secure communication – which mainly includes “HIN Mail”. This encrypts emails in line with data protection regulations and securely transmits the message to the relevant recipient. All HIN members and external recipients who don’t have an HIN connection are supported.

With SEPPmail’s HIN Connector, companies that are connected to the HIN platform can connect their SEPPmail Secure Email Gateway directly to the HIN email service. So, communication with all members of the HIN network is automatically encrypted. The Secure Email Gateway decides whether an email is sent directly or whether the HIN gateway encryption is used based on the relevant recipient’s email address.
