This server allows movement of data within Cloud Data Exchange (CDE). You can deploy SAS Data Agent locally, on premises or in a cloud environment. A CLI is used to create definitions such as data services and data source names. The CLI is also used to define security domains for accessing data sources that are located on premises.

Overview
Cloud Data Exchange for the SAS Viya Platform includes the co-located SAS Data Agent and the remote SAS Data Agent. This roadmap is a brief overview of the steps that you must complete in order to begin using SAS Data Agent. These steps and more are covered later in this guide. Remote SAS Data Agent is an on-premises server that runs as a container on a host machine. After the container is started, the SAS Data Agent plug-in (dagentsrv plug-in) to the SAS Viya CLI (sas-viya CLI) is used to access, copy, and load data between on-premises data sources and data sources that are available to the SAS Viya platform. The Quick Start provides the basics for configuring a connection to the SAS Viya platform deployment and for running the container. Follow the steps to gain an understanding about the required files and software. At the end of the Quick Start, refer to the documentation in Next Steps to further customize remote SAS Data Agent for your environment. Remote SAS Data Agent is a server that runs as a Docker on Linux container. After the container is running, the SAS Data Agent plug-in (dagentsrv plug-in) to the SAS Viya CLI (sas-viya CLI) is used to perform data transfers securely from remote SAS Data Agent to the SAS Viya platform where co-located SAS Data Agent is configured.
SAS Data Agent Server Initialization
Server Start-Up
On start-up of the server, SAS Data Agent establishes a persistent connection to the PostgreSQL Server. After connection is made, SAS Data Agent initializes the system catalog database. The system catalog contains configuration metadata. Configuration metadata includes a list of existing data services, DSNs, privileges, and other information generated as a result of configuring SAS Data Agent.
