Overview

Qarto is a specialized ENC (Electronic Navigational Chart) production tool within the QPS Q‑Suite. Designed for maritime authorities, port operators, and hydrographic agencies, it streamlines the conversion of high‑resolution bathymetric survey data into production‑ready ENC charts. By integrating with ESRI and handling large datasets automatically, Qarto ensures busy ports have fast access to up‑to‑date navigational charts—a critical capability for safe maritime operations.

Features and Capabilities

  • **Rapid, automated ENC production: **Qarto enables high-speed generation of electronic navigational charts directly from high-resolution bathymetric surveys. Its automated workflows drastically reduce manual chart creation steps, allowing organizations to produce and update ENCs in bulk with consistent quality and accuracy.
  • **S-57 editing via Qomposer: **Integrated with Qomposer, Qarto provides comprehensive tools for editing, managing, and validating S-57 chart content. Users can interactively adjust geometry and attributes of navigational features, ensuring compliance with IHO standards.
  • **High-resolution bathymetry support: **The system supports the inclusion of ultra-dense bathymetric data, enabling the creation of ENCs with fine contour intervals (as precise as 10 cm). This level of detail is ideal for representing complex underwater features critical to safe navigation in port areas.
  • **ESRI/ArcGIS integration: **Qarto can be embedded directly within ESRI environments, allowing users to leverage existing ArcGIS infrastructure and datasets. This supports seamless geospatial workflows and easy incorporation of ENC production into enterprise GIS systems.
  • **Standalone capability: **Qarto can function independently using only base ENC cells and newly acquired bathymetric data. This makes it ideal for use cases where rapid deployment or minimal system dependencies are required.
  • **Broad source format compatibility: **The software supports a wide variety of geospatial formats, including CAD files, high-resolution imagery, TIFF raster data, and S-57 vector data. This flexibility simplifies data ingestion and enables users to work with diverse source material.
  • **Proven large-port deployment: **Qarto has been successfully deployed by major ports around the world. Its ability to deliver frequent, reliable chart updates has been instrumental in supporting safe and efficient navigation in busy, dynamic maritime environments.
