Overview

AMD FidelityFX is an open-source image-quality toolkit and set of technologies for game and graphics developers that improves visual fidelity and performance. It includes a family of modular effects — such as super-resolution upscalers (FSR variants), denoisers, ambient occlusion, variable-rate shading, screen-space reflections, HDR mapping, and more — that developers can integrate into rendering pipelines to boost framerates, reduce GPU load, and preserve or enhance perceived image detail across a wide range of hardware. FidelityFX is optimized for AMD RDNA architectures but is cross-platform and designed for broad hardware compatibility, enabling developers to tune presets from ultra-quality to high performance for different platforms and workflows.

Features and Capabilities

  • Upscaling & Frame Generation: FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) family provides spatial and temporal upscaling and advanced frame-generation options to increase framerates while retaining image detail; multiple presets (Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced, Performance) let developers trade quality vs. performance.
  • Temporal Reconstruction: FSR 2/3 use temporal data (motion vectors, history) to reconstruct higher-quality frames and reduce temporal artifacts compared with basic spatial-only upscalers.
  • Denoising (Raytracing Support): FidelityFX denoisers improve ray-traced and other noisy effects, enabling higher visual quality with fewer samples and lower render cost.
  • Ambient Occlusion: High-quality screen-space and analytic ambient occlusion techniques deliver more realistic shading of creases and contact shadows with minimal overhead.
  • Variable Rate Shading (VRS): VRS tools analyze frame content to apply shading rates selectively, improving performance where full shading detail is unnecessary.
  • HDR Mapping & Tone Tools: Tools to manage HDR conversions and tone mapping to preserve highlight detail and color fidelity across displays.
  • Modularity & Open Source: Toolkit is modular and open-source, enabling integration, customization, and community-driven improvements.
  • Cross-Platform & Broad Hardware Support: Designed to work across a wide range of GPUs (AMD and non-AMD), integrated and discrete, as well as professional applications (FSR for PRO).
  • Developer Resources & Branding Guidelines: AMD provides integration guides, naming/logo assets, and best-practice recommendations to streamline game integration and user interface presentation.
