EFS 450EditShare

High-performance, enterprise-scale, scale-out shared storage engineered for demanding collaborative media workflows.

Product details

Overview

EFS 450 is an enterprise-class, scale-out shared storage platform designed for demanding collaborative media environments. It starts small and scales linearly — supporting high sustained bandwidth, robust fault tolerance via native XOR protection, and a single logical namespace across all nodes so teams can read and write large media files without fragmentation or downtime during expansion. Built for mission-critical post, broadcast and production workflows, the system combines high throughput, metadata-driven performance (RAM-based metadata controllers), and background data redistribution so additions of storage nodes do not interrupt production. Typical entry configurations provide multiple GB/s of aggregate bandwidth and the architecture tolerates full node loss without service interruption.

Features and Capabilities

  • Capacity & Scalability: Start at modest TB sizes and expand non-disruptively to multiple petabytes by adding storage nodes; system always presents a single logical namespace so files never need repartitioning.
  • Performance & Bandwidth: Multi-GB/s aggregate throughput from a small cluster; optimized for sustained reads/writes required by high-bitrate formats and multi-stream playback.
  • Data Protection & Resilience: Native XOR protection and HA metadata controllers allow the system to tolerate a full storage node loss and operate with no single point of failure.
  • Metadata-Driven Efficiency: RAM-based metadata controllers and SwiftRead technology reduce resource contention, lowering chances of dropped frames during concurrent ingest/playback.
  • Parallel Filesystem Architecture: Distributed parallel file system across nodes enables many clients to access the same assets concurrently with predictable latency and throughput.
  • Client & OS Support: Native EFS client drivers are available for macOS, Windows and Linux to ensure consistent behavior for common NLEs and workstations.
  • Live Expansion: Add nodes while the system remains online; background processes rebalance data without interrupting production workflows.
  • Media-Focused Integrations: Designed to work with media asset management and workflow tools to support ingest, editing, transcoding and archive tiers as part of end-to-end media pipelines.
  • Multi-site & Hybrid Workflows: Capable of supporting hybrid cloud/on-prem workflows and remote editing when paired with EditShare FLEX and FLOW solutions.
  • Operational Management: Metadata controller(s) provide traffic management and monitoring; systems include tools for admin, capacity planning and high-availability configuration.
