Product details

Verisk Earthquake Models leverage local and regional expertise to represent the most advanced understanding of seismic hazard and building vulnerability.

Manage uncertainty with high-quality data

Relying on historical earthquake data isn’t always helpful, especially in regions with limited historical seismic activity. Finding accurate, up-to-date, comprehensive building exposure data is another challenge. And earthquakes can cause widespread damage in seconds, flooding your business with many claims all at once. High-quality data, modeled intelligently, helps you handle earthquake risk and response.

Reliably assess and manage seismic risk

Get the most comprehensive view of earthquake risk available to help you fashion more effective portfolio management strategies and make sound underwriting decisions.

Capture regional differences in vulnerability

Data on region-specific construction practices and building codes, damage surveys, and engineering research combine for a more accurate picture of building stock variability.

Estimate potential damage and losses from tsunamis

The models simulate water propagation and inundation to provide the most accurate view of this important source of loss.

Account for the impact of aftershocks

Although typically smaller than a mainshock, aftershocks can increase losses by damaging structures already impacted by an earthquake.

Features and capabilities

Probabilistic modeling approach and support for sub-perils

Verisk Earthquake Models provide a probabilistic approach for determining the likelihood of loss from earthquake ground shaking, as well as from five earthquake-related sub-perils: fire following, tsunami, liquefaction, landslide, and sprinkler leakage.

Get a comprehensive view of seismic hazard

Because relying on historical records alone is insufficient for estimating where future earthquakes will occur and how large they will be, Verisk models also use information from extensive GPS networks to provide insight into where and how seismic stress is accumulating.

Broad support for construction classes and occupancies

These models support 127 construction classes and 111 occupancy classes (62 for large industrial facilities) for shake, fire following, tsunami, liquefaction, landslide, and sprinkler leakage sub-perils.
