Product details

disk2n is a 10 Gigabit network traffic replayer designed to replay network traffic previously captured with n2disk onto live networks, accurately reproducing the original inter-packet timing. It supports the industry-standard PCAP file format, accommodating both regular and nanosecond timestamps. The software is engineered to handle multiple PCAP files of any size, including terabytes of data, while maintaining limited memory usage. Users can specify a playlist of PCAP files or a timeline generated by n2disk with a defined time interval, instructing disk2n to loop continuously from the first packet upon reaching the last. The memory footprint of disk2n is user-configurable, employing a memory buffer of adjustable size to cache the next packets for replay, thereby achieving high transmit performance with minimal memory consumption. disk2n is a versatile tool applicable to various activities, including reproducing selected long-term network activities, replaying previously captured traffic to different network interfaces, and generating traffic to test network equipment, overcoming the replay duration limitations of typical traffic generators. It can also be used as software application or embedded on the nBox recorder.

Features & Benefits

  • Fully User Configurable
  • PCAP Support
    • Uses the standard PCAP file format (regular and nanoseconds).
  • Line-Rate Packet Replay
  • Packet Reforging
    • Reforges source/destination MAC/IP/Port on the fly, recomputing destination MAC in case of multicast and recalculating checksum.
  • Inter-Packet Time Tuning
    • Replays traffic at capture rate or at a user-defined rate.
  • Multi-Core Support
    • Designed with multicore architectures in mind, using three optimized threads for disk reading, packet transmission, and precise time generation.
  • PF_RING Acceleration
    • Exploits the packet transmission acceleration offered by PF_RING ZC.
  • Direct-IO Disk Access
    • Uses Direct IO access to the disks in order to obtain maximum disk-read throughput.
