The cryptovision Jacolyn CSP is a universal, certified security core designed to protect the confidentiality and integrity of user data and generate digital signatures. It leverages cryptographic functions based on suitable security hardware. The underlying CSP concept, developed by the German BSI, encapsulates crypto functions, allowing for risk-free integration into applications with high security requirements without necessitating specialized cryptographic knowledge. A key application of Jacolyn is in technical security devices (TSE) for cash registers, mandated in Germany from January 1, 2020, to prevent manipulation. These TSEs require certification by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and include a security module, storage medium, and a uniform digital interface. The cryptovision TSE integrates Jacolyn with the "Security Module Application for Electronic Record-keeping Systems" (SMAERS), a memory module, and a digital interface for cash register software. Jacolyn is certified according to Common Criteria Protection Profile BSI-CC-PP-0104-2019 at EAL 4+, and SMAERS at EAL 2+. Implementations include secure embedded elements for local use in integrated systems and IoT devices, as well as firmware extensions for hardware security modules (HSMs) for central, cloud-based deployments.
